Puppets have been used to tell stories since theatre began and can be found everywhere from stage to screen. Puppetry celebrates all aspects of the arts and is a “must-have” skill on every resume! Join us for this basic puppetry primer for adults that covers an overview of puppet styles and their cultural connections, voice/body/mind warm-ups, and puppetry basics using objects. Come ready to move and play!
TARGET: adults 18+, beginning to intermediate level. No puppetry experience required but some level of comfort with theatre and/or movement is suggested if no puppetry experience.
Aretta Baumgartner is a performer/teaching artist specializing in puppetry, mask, and movement. She’s been a professional puppeteer since 1992 and is proud to be the Education Director of the world-renowned Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta, GA the largest non-profit organization dedicated to the art of puppetry in the United States (www.puppet.org). She’s presented thousands of workshops all over the country, performs nationally as a puppetry artist, and serves as President of the Board of Directors for the Puppeteers of America. Aretta is dedicated to using puppetry as a tool to unlock potential, passion, and story in every human she meets.
