International Puppet Fringe Festival NYC Internship Listings – (IPFFNYC) The Society of the Educational Arts, Inc. (SEA)

The Society of the Educational Arts, Inc. (Teatro SEA) a Bilingual Arts-in-Education Organization and Latino Theatre Company for Young Audiences, dedicated to the empowerment and educational advancement of children and young adults, seeks motivated interns to assist with our latest and upcoming endeavor, the Second International Puppet Fringe Festival NYC (IPFFNYC), taking place August 11th – 15th, 2021 at The Clemente on the Lower East Side.

The Big Apple will serve as a perfect backdrop for this international affair celebrating diversity, inclusion and puppet theater arts. The festival will host puppets from companies all over the globe to showcase their productions and talents in various spaces within the building. Known for its varied cultural programming, broad-minded cultural vision, and collaborative philosophy, as well as its history as a partnering venue in the past for Fringe NYC, The Clemente.

Interns will have the opportunity to take part and enjoy the events at IPFFNYC during the hours they are not working.

QUALIFICATIONS

All interns should be familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel as well as Google Suite Apps. We are looking for interns who are motivated, flexible, committed, and have an interest in the arts, arts administration and/or the non-profit industry. Must be able to multitask, prioritize, communicate efficiently, work well in fast-paced, high-pressure environments and complete various errands inside and outside of the facilities. A positive, enthusiastic attitude is a must. Spanish-speaking or Bilingual is a plus, but not mandatory.

Interns will create their schedule with the Operations & Program Director and/or Production & Technical Director

A Teatro SEA internship offers a comprehensive introduction to the non-profit art world and can provide meaningful professional development to a committed and motivated individual. Teatro SEA will work with you to complete paperwork for school credit, if so desired. This is a unique opportunity to gain experience in a fast-paced, non-profit arts-in-education organization serving children, youth and families throughout New York City.

All internships are unpaid.

IPFFNYC - Administrative and Operations Intern

Administrative and Operations Interns will assist the festival team with marketing, development and event/performance coordination responsibilities as well as other tasks related to the festival. Interns will gain first-hand experience in assisting with the logistics of making a festival come to life! Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Marketing team with research pertaining to festival sponsorships, marketing materials and more
  • On-board local restaurants and hotels to sponsor and support the festival in various ways
  • Prepare welcome bags to be handed out during IPFFNYC
  • Assist with scheduling social media posts leading up to the festival as well as on-site during festival events
  • Support administrative team in creating and providing toolkits and guides for participating festival companies (recommendations for lodging, restaurants, transportation, entertainment, etc.)
  • Prepare box office materials and festival merchandise for the week-of festival
  • Assist in the coordination of the Puppet Cabaret and Artist Symposiums 
  • Assist with volunteer coordination and ensure all volunteers have pertinent information 
  • Support the festival team during the week of the festival in implementing daily events 

Requirements: Able to use Google Suite, some basic administrative experience. Proficient communication skills in English. Great sense of responsibility and organization.

Schedule: Flexible. Anywhere from 8 – 20 hours per week, between the hours of Monday – Friday, 10 am – 6 pm. The Festival will take place August 11 – 15, and interns will be expected to work events during this week (including Saturday and Sunday). 

Start Date: May 1st – August 15, 2021

IPFFNYC - Production Assistant Intern

Production Assistant Interns will support our production team and work with the Head of Production to ensure that IPFFNYC runs smoothly from a technical standpoint. Interns will carry out various tasks and projects, including but not limited to:

  • Liaising with the participating talent to meet their production needs
  • Shadowing Head of Production to complete any necessary assignments for the festival  
  • Maintenance of theatrical equipment and SEA’s home-base theater facilities
  • Assist in the coordination of the Puppet Cabaret and Artist Symposiums 
  • Assist with volunteer coordination and ensure all volunteers have pertinent information 
  • Support the festival team during the week of the festival in implementing daily events 

Interns will receive some training in theatrical lighting, sound, and carpentry. 

Requirements: This is a physically active position including walking, standing, reaching, bending and lifting. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. 

Schedule: This will be determined upon hire. We are looking for interns to work anywhere from 15 – 30 hours per week, including 5-10 hours during the festival days.

Start Date:  July 1, 2021 – August 16, 2021

IPFFNYC - Sponsorship Coordinator Intern

Sponsorship Coordinator inter will assist the Sponsorship Coordinator and the Production Team to guarantee commercial partners and sponsors to support all the event programming and production. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Writing of sponsorship proposals
  • Development of a commercial relationship with potential sponsors
  • Coordinate advertising exchanges 
  • Follow up agreements via phone call or email
  • Coordinate sponsors necessities with graphic designer and Marketing Team
  • Create sponsorship reports including graphics and documentation

Requirements: Proficient communication skills in English. Ability to negotiate. Great sense of responsibility and organization.

Schedule: This will be determined upon hire. We are looking for interns to work anywhere from 10-15 hours per week, including the festival days.

Start Date:  May 1st, 2021 – August 15, 2021

IPFFNYC - Aide-de-camp Coordinator Intern

Aide-de-camp will serve as a liaison person between the puppet troops that will perform at the festival and the Organization, and will work together with the Production Team. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate services such as transportation and lodging 
  • Serve as a guide on NYC transportation system 
  • Prepare welcome bags to be handed out during IPFFNYC
  • Support administrative team in creating and providing toolkits and guides for participating festival companies (recommendations for lodging, restaurants, transportation, entertainment, etc.)
  • Assist with volunteer coordination and ensure all volunteers have pertinent information 
  • Support the festival team during the week of the festival in implementing daily events 

Requirements: Proficient communication skills in English. Spanish or French speaking, but not mandatory. Great sense of responsibility and organization.

Schedule: This will be determined upon hire. We are looking for interns to work anywhere from 5-10 hours per week, including 5-10 hours during the festival days.

Start Date:  July 1st – August 15, 2021

IPFFNYC - Graphic Designer

Graphic Designer will assist the graphic designer to replicate the graphic image of the event for different media and platforms, both print and digital. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Create social media graphics
  • Develop event’s signage
  • Design media packages and marketing materials
  • Keep website updated with event sponsors and programming changes
  • Design event merchandise
  • Prepare box office materials and festival merchandise for the week-of festival

Requirements: Knowledge of Adobe Suite Programs. Bilingual: English and Spanish. Great sense of responsibility and organization. Detail oriented.

Schedule: This will be determined upon hire. We are looking for interns to work anywhere from 5-10 hours per week, including the festival days.

Start Date:  June 1st – August 31, 2021

IPFFNYC - Documentalist / Photographer Intern

Documentalist/Photographer Intern will work closely with our Documentation and Marketing Team to create a historical record of this unique event and to create up-to date images to be used on social media and marketing packages. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Create short interviews to participants and audience during the event
  • Create visual documentation of all the events
  • Manage and organize digital files on the Organization Drive to be used by other team members
  • Submit files to other team members such as Marketing and Sponsorships

Requirements: Knowledge of Adobe Suite Programs. Great sense of responsibility and organization. Detail oriented.

Schedule: This will be determined upon hire. We are looking for interns to work anywhere 5-10 hours during the festival days.

Start Date:  August 11th – August 15th, 2021

IPFFNYC - Sales Coordinator Intern

Sales Representatives will work directly with the Production Team to …  
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare box office materials and festival merchandise for the week-of festival
  • Assist with volunteer coordination and ensure all volunteers have pertinent information 
  • Support the festival team during the week of the festival in implementing daily events 

Requirements:
