International Puppet Fringe Festival Postponed Till 2026
With The Temporary Closure of the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural & Education Center
New York, NY- The International Puppet Fringe Festival, organized by Teatro SEA, Grupo Morán (The Morán Group), and The Clemente Soto Velez Cultural & Education Center, is being postponed till 2026 due to the closure of the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural & Education Center with its ongoing renovations. This decision is a result of the commencement of a historic $13 million accessibility project at The Clemente Center aimed at making the cultural center fully ADA compliant. The renovation project, launched on January 6, 2024, marks a significant moment for The Clemente as it undergoes a transformative upgrade. The project, generously funded by the City of New York, includes the installation of a new elevator in the five-story building, wheelchair-accessible bathrooms in the main theaters, upgraded restrooms and hallways. Additionally, the lobby will undergo a complete renovation.
Isabel DeJesus, Board Chair of SEA states “Teatro SEA and The Clemente are inextricably linked, and we are excited for the building we call our home to get some long overdue upgrades. However, this is a difficult transition period full of unknowns for Teatro SEA.”
Known for its diverse performances and a showcase of the artistry and creativity of puppetry from around the world; the postponement of the International Puppet Fringe Festival is a huge loss to the puppetry world and the artistic landscape of New York.
With the ongoing renovations at the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural & Education Center since January 2024, Teatro SEA has appreciated the understanding and support of its patrons during this transformative period. To ensure the continuation of the Puppet Fringe Festival and the other wonderful programs presented by Teatro SEA, please take the time to make a donation today. Your generosity will help us preserve the magic of puppetry and the arts, ensuring these cultural experiences thrive for years to come. All donations can be made through the Teatro SEA website.
